ABOUT Chula Vista
Welcome to Sunny Chula Vista!
The exquisite City of Chula
Vista is unlike any other. Nestled beside a beautiful bay filled with boats
gently swaying in the yacht harbor and surrounded by picturesque mountains
rising tall into the blue sky, the city evokes a sense of community and family
spirit reminiscent of small town America. What makes Chula Vista unique,
however, is that it offers both the aura and pleasures of a small town with
tree-lined streets and family owned businesses and the amenities of a thriving
metropolis.
In Chula Vista, we have an expanding downtown brimming with
retail shops, restaurants and businesses, both old and new. New, modern
architecture combines harmoniously with historical sites and parks located
throughout the city.
With top schools, excellent health care facilities, libraries
overflowing with information, spacious parks to play in, community programs for
all ages and top-notch facilities for South Bay’s seniors.
Chula Vista offers the residents of its community the best of
everything.
In 1911, the city was known primarily for its lemon orchards.
Today, Chula Vista is recognized for its yacht harbor with
two marinas, recreational vehicle parks, shopping centers, golf courses,
lodging, restaurants, parks, picnic areas, fishing pier and boat launching
facility. Rich growth continues in this thriving city.
The Nature Center,
ARCO/U.S. Olympic Training Center,
Knott’s Soak City USA Water Park and the
Cricket Amphitheater have put Chula Vista toward the top of the list as
a “must” family getaway. Whether you choose to live in Chula Vista or are
looking for an exciting vacation spot, you are sure to enjoy all that Chula
Vista has to offer.
The city’s growth continues steadily on the upswing. In 1911,
Chula Vista encompassed an area of only six square miles. By 1961, the city had
expanded to 19 square miles, and since then has blossomed into its present 52
square miles.
In half a century, Chula Vista has experienced a population
explosion, with more than 178,000 people enjoying the benefits of Chula Vista as
their home today. Fifty years ago, the city’s population was 1,718.
The expanding population can be attributed to growing
employment opportunities, a rich community spirit, a consistently moderate
climate and a city government that puts the quality of life first.
The benefits of a diverse work force, a well-educated and
progressive population, and an ideal location for work and play are attractive
to businesses.
Easy access to two major north-south freeways and a third
soon to be constructed north-south highway
makes Chula Vista a convenient place to work, visit and live. Inter-states 5 and
805 bring thousands of visitors and tourists to the city each day.
Proximity to San Diego and Mexico, just seven miles from
either location, makes Chula Vista a well suited spot for both business and
pleasure.
